JESUS IS ALWAYS A GOOD FRIEND (1)

Memory Verse : “A friend loves you all the time.” Proverbs 17:17, NCV

Jesus is a good friend when I am afraid.

Peter Walks on Water • Matthew 14:22-33

Jesus’ friends, the disciples, are on a boat in the water, and they see something coming toward them. They are all afraid until Jesus says, “Don’t be afraid.” Peter hops out of the boat and begins walking on the water toward Jesus. But, when Peter hears the wind blowing and sees the waves getting bigger, he feels afraid and begins to sink! Jesus holds His hand out and pulls Peter up, helping Peter back in the boat. Jesus is a good friend to Peter when he is afraid, because Jesus is always a good friend.

Questions

1. Why did Peter begin to sink into the sea?

“He got afraid when he saw that the wind and waves got bigger.”

2. Why did Jesus pull Peter out of the water?

“Jesus did that because He is a good friend.”

3. What would you like Jesus to help you when you are afraid?

I am sure there were times when we got afraid. We are afraid of being hurt by big dogs, when there is a big storm with thunder and lightning, or when we get lost in a dark place. But Jesus says He will always be with us no matter what. We can call on His name when we are afraid and He will come to help us. He is truly our best friend.
